The transport sector accounts for around 16% of global CO2 emissions, equivalent to 8.6 gigatonnes (Gt) in 2020. Achieving 50% reductions in emissions in each of the next three decades to reach net zero by 2050 means removing 4.3 Gt of CO2 from total annual transport-related emissions over the next 10 years.
