Understanding and unlocking the connectivity opportunity in EV charging

This report is available to those subscribed to the IoT & Enterprise module.
Electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure has been expanding at a fast pace, with the number of charging points in some markets increasing by over 40% per year. However, the adoption of EVs has been slower than expected, with consumers pointing to a lack of reliable charging services and challenges in discovery and interoperability being some of the top hurdles. For IoT connectivity providers, there are opportunities here thanks to the combination of a favourable policy environment, the rapid expansion of EV infrastructure and the persisting challenges in end-user experiences. This report explains the connectivity needs of EV chargers, identifies the current trends in European markets and the US, and explores the options for telecoms operators and IoT MVNOs to make the most of the opportunity through to 2030.
