Contact usThis report examines operators’ engagement at MWC 2024, highlighting their announcements and innovations, strategy updates and messaging. We show our findings for 18 major operators across 12 areas of focus.
All 18 operators we tracked demonstrated a high level of eagerness and made strong efforts to promote their latest innovations and developments (e.g. networks, technologies, products, services, partnerships), provide an update on their visions and strategies, and share their views on the trends that are shaping their businesses and the wider telecoms industry.
We applied a rigorous and comprehensive methodology to ensure consistency across the 18 operators and the 12 preset focal areas that we tracked. AI and B2B were the top two areas of focus. Between 5G, 5G-Advanced and 6G, there was no clear winner. The surprise finding was that the operator focus on consumer is back. APIs scored fifth overall in terms of areas of focus but third when only looking at major focus areas.

How the entitlement server is driving impact for mobile operators
Initially deployed for niche use cases, the entitlement server (ES) has expanded to become the intermediary between mobile network infrastructure and the universe of devices. It authenticates a number of services, including RCS messaging, eSIM, network slices and satellite connectivity. The investment logic for the ES is strengthened by clear cost savings and revenue opportunities post deployment. Operators should consider a strategy for monetisation and identity management based on ES deployment.
