Mobile Economic Impact: India
India's mobile market has seen rapid growth over the past 10 years, with the number of mobile internet subscribers growing fourfold since 2012. The impact of mobile on the Indian economy has grown over the past year, with the ecosystem accounting for 4.7% of the country's GDP in 2021.
The mobile industry also supports, directly and indirectly, a large number of skilled workers, with almost 3.4 million jobs supported in 2021. Meanwhile, the mobile ecosystem continues to represent an important source of India's public funding, with approximately $17 billion raised through taxation in 2021. India is also expected to benefit greatly from the development of 5G: by 2040, 5G could benefit the Indian economy by $455 billion, positively impacting all economic sectors.
