As VoLTE reaches its 10-year anniversary, the technology is gaining more relevance. The arrival of 5G is increasing commercial pressure on operators to retire 2G/3G networks, refarm spectrum, improve the quality of voice service, provide new voice services and use more efficient technology.
In mid-2022, GSMA Intelligence surveyed 100 operators across 45 markets on topics related to VoLTE. The results highlight key VoLTE drivers and bottlenecks, and help form an understanding of the current state of the 'eternal' core operator service: voice communication.
