At its recent annual summit, the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) heralded live commercial deployments of disaggregated open networks in the telecoms space and new member joiners. Inspired by the openness of the IT industry, the Facebook-led initiative aims to accelerate the development and deployment of telecoms networks, particularly with open-source networking technologies. There were a number of prominent announcements at the event, including operator commitments to TIP’s mission, such as a landmark tender announcement by Vodafone. The development of the open-source landscape also has clear implications for both challenger and incumbent vendors.
