The streaming war accelerates with no slowdown in sight

This report is available to those subscribed to the Fixed, TV and Convergence module.
Disney became the first major US media house to launch a D2C video streaming service, Disney+, in November 2019. Several other US media incumbents have since followed with their own services, such as HBO Max and Peacock, joining Disney+ in its challenge of Netflix’s position in the video streaming market. With a run of a few months behind many of these D2C services, now is a good time to assess the current competitive landscape, consider the implications of increased video streaming competition for ecosystem players and look at how the shape of the market may change in the future. In this analysis we focus on the competition between the big US video streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+, which lead the market both in terms of subscriber count and geographical reach.
