Operators across Latin America are making steady progress on their 5G journey, with adoption forecast to reach more than 50% by 2030. Over 30 operators in 13 countries have launched commercial 5G services to date, while a further 18 have announced deployment plans in the coming years.
In 2024, mobile technologies and services generated $550 billion for the economy in Latin America, equivalent to 8.2% of GDP. The industry’s economic contribution is forecast to reach $680 billion by 2030 (8.6% of GDP), as uptake of 5G, AI and other digital technologies continues.
This latest edition of The Mobile Economy Latin America provides an update on key mobile market data and the impact of mobile on the economy across the region. It analyses key trends across the ecosystem including 5G, energy efficiency, AI and digital transformation. The report highlights how mobile technologies are contributing significantly to environmental sustainability and economic empowerment. The research concludes by discussing industry enablers – in particular, the importance of tax policy, access to spectrum and the sustainability of infrastructure networks.
