Exploring 5G private network opportunities in Asia Pacific
The arrival of 5G has given new impetus to private networks, with many performance advantages over LTE, including faster data transmission and lower latency. Private 5G is gaining traction as verticals accelerate their digital transformation plans. Private 5G activity in Asia Pacific has so far been concentrated in the region’s most advanced countries, such as Australia, Japan, South Korea and Singapore. But momentum is beginning to grow elsewhere too, as evidenced by developments in India and Thailand.
A GSMA Intelligence survey found that 16% of operators in Asia Pacific expect private networks to account for over 20% of enterprise revenues by 2025. Connectivity and IoT are expected to account for nearly two thirds of revenues from private networks. However, operators should also explore opportunities in other areas, such as security, professional services and spectrum management.
Furthermore, the changing competitive landscape means that operators will need to develop new expertise and commercial relationships to realise the private 5G opportunity. This report identifies five main considerations for operators.

Industry Checkpoint: private networks, Q1 2026
This edition of the Industry Checkpoint series focuses on private networks, highlighting how the market has changed in the last six months and the implications. The report considers four major developments: Nokia's shift in focus in the private networks space; gathering momentum for private networks in Europe; the varying strategies of satellite vendors; and spectrum policy and mmWave trends.
Connectivity trends in robotics: 5G and cellular IoT are only just emerging
From a telecoms perspective, robotics was recognised early on as a key future use case during the planning and rollout of 5G around seven years ago. With 5G-Advanced now commercially deployed in early-adopter countries, it is timely to evaluate 5G’s real-world impact on robotics. We also explore how complementary technologies such as edge computing, IoT and eSIM are shaping the connectivity landscape.
Industry Checkpoint: private networks, Q3 2025
This edition of the Industry Checkpoint series focuses on private networks, highlighting how the market has changed in the last six months and its implications. The report considers four major developments: telecoms operators upping their offerings through managed services; private networks solutions increasingly being tailored for edge AI applications; private 5G's growing role in public safety infrastructure; and the accelerating momentum of private networks in military and defence.
