2025 marks 10 years since the launch of Digital India, a government initiative that aims to create a digitally empowered society and knowledge-based economy. Much of the progress with India’s digital transformation to date has occurred in the past decade, reflecting the influence of the initiative on the nation’s digital landscape.
India’s progress on its digitalisation journey is reflected in its performance in the GSMA Intelligence Digital Nations Index. This tracks the progress of Asia Pacific countries on their digitalisation goals. The index highlights significant gaps that could undermine further advancement if left unaddressed. For policymakers and other stakeholders in India’s digital ecosystem, recognising these gaps is a vital first step to addressing them, notwithstanding the progress made so far. This report highlights recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders on the path to digital sovereignty.
