Historically, enterprises (and manufacturers in particular) have been reluctant to move their data to the cloud. The Covid-19 pandemic, however, has strengthened the need for remote access. Enterprises are increasingly sending data to the cloud, but want to make decisions at the edge to empower agile operations.
Our new Enterprise in Focus Survey shows 46% of enterprises view edge as a very important success factor in their IoT deployments. These are still early stages, but recent months have witnessed a burst of partnership activity to figure out how to capture the edge opportunity: cloud providers are teaming up with operators, and operator alliances are forming to bring edge to 5G.
