Before the pandemic, the telecoms sector was already undergoing significant changes from a raft of trends, including new network models, 5G commercialisation and servicing enterprise verticals. While the pace of change has continued in some respects, in others it has been masked, subdued or delayed as the reverberations from the pandemic occurred.

Continued investment in mobile networks will be critical to improve productivity, strengthen resilience and maintain the region’s long-term competitiveness. In 2025, mobile technologies and services generated $1.9 trillion in economic value across North America, equivalent to 5.8% of regional GDP.
