The Things Conference 2025 recently concluded in Amsterdam, marking a milestone for the global LoRaWAN and broader IoT community. At the conferece there was expanded engagement across IoT connectivity technologies, including cellular (NB-IoT, LTE-M), Wi-Fi, satellites, short range and even light communications. Coinciding with the 10-year mark since the creation of The Things Industries and the founding of the LoRa Alliance, the conference offered reflections on a decade of IoT evolution and the future opportunity in a converged IoT ecosystem.

Key themes included the rise of edge AI in IoT chips and applications, the integration of generative AI into IoT development platforms, advancements in satellite IoT through partnerships with LoRaWAN and mobile networks and preparations for the upcoming EU Cyber Resilience Act.

Notably, LoRaWAN’s continued momentum could point to a model of openness and community engagement, qualities that are increasingly relevant for the wider IoT space, including cellular IoT with one in three mobile operators reconsidering their long-term IoT strategies.
