WCDMA has started to grow strongly in Western Europe during 2005. However, the growth is uneven; it has been held back in some areas by poor coverage or difficult market conditions caused by heavy price competition from discount MVNOs. WCDMA has not yet started to eat into the GSM-only subscriber base.
