The 5G era for operators: investing in core networks, capturing B2B opportunities
This insight is open to all subscribers and registered users, or available by completing the form.
The provision of services to enterprises is not new to operators. However, the 5G era has driven renewed interest as B2B use cases are seen as the incremental opportunity to monetise 5G networks and service deployments. Most operators, network vendors and other mobile industry stakeholders agree B2B is a key pillar of their 5G strategies: without it, the 5G business case is much more difficult to justify.
To drive B2B revenue growth, operators need a clear proposition that targets the digital transformation of industries and enterprises - one that integrates nascent 5G networks with services beyond connectivity. A viable and focused B2B investment strategy is also key. Getting the capabilities (5G networks, cloud, edge, IoT and spectrum) and business models in place to fully service enterprises will take time, but operators are already laying the groundwork to capture new B2B opportunities.

5G in Africa 2026: market status, trends and outlook
5G is beginning to make inroads in Africa, though its overall impact remains uneven and limited. With the technology now in its seventh year of deployment, this is a critical juncture for stakeholders to take immediate and coordinated action to accelerate deployment, deepen adoption and maximise the impact of 5G in the region. This includes addressing bottlenecks to spectrum availability and introducing policy incentives to stimulate both consumer and enterprise demand, particularly in markets where operators have already invested heavily in network rollouts.
Telcos and the AI token economy: what could go wrong?
As the market races to evaluate the opportunity of token-focused AI monetisation, perhaps the most important question is around the challenges and risks. Against the backdrop of an evolving and uncertain new market, this piece covers the potential pitfalls that operators need to be aware of.
A target architecture for telecoms cybersecurity
This white paper, using evidence from a GSMA Intelligence survey of operators in Asia Pacific, explains why traditional perimeter-based security is no longer enough and what operators need to do to build a more resilient, architecture-led approach. It covers how AI is changing the threat landscape; why expanding attack surfaces require stronger governance; and how native security, depth defence, dual security operation centre (SOC) operations and AI-enabled tools can help operators protect critical networks.
