New T-Mobile: A child born of 5G

This report is available to those subscribed to the Mobile Operators and Networks module.
On 29 July, the US Department of Justice provided clearance for the merger of T-Mobile and Sprint into an entity called New T-Mobile. The transaction is contingent on Sprint divesting its prepaid business and a portion of spectrum to Dish (for $5 billion), ostensibly to keep the US a four-player market in the long term. However, the US market will be fundamentally reshaped into a 30/30/30 set-up; all is to play for in 5G, which will reach 50% penetration in the US by 2025.
