Mobile Connectivity Index
GSMA Intelligence is pleased to announce the launch of the Mobile Connectivity Index. Produced in collaboration with the GSMA’s Connected Society team, this new product has been developed with a clear and simple motivation – to support the efforts of the mobile industry and the wider international community to deliver on the ambition of universal access to the internet.
Already more than 3 billion people around the world are connected to the internet, but that still leaves more than 4 billion people offline, excluded from the powerful opportunities for social and economic development that the internet enables. The Mobile Connectivity Index has been designed as a tool to help focus the efforts and resources of the mobile industry and wider international community so progress towards universal access can be as swift and economically sustainable as possible.
The index helps to measure the performance of 134 countries, accounting for more than 95% of the world’s population, against four key enablers of mobile internet connectivity: infrastructure, affordability, consumer readiness and content. These enablers are built up through analysis of 38 individual indicators using best-in-class source data. Users can view each country’s performance against the enablers and indicators in the index.
