IoT: the $1 trillion revenue opportunity

Released
MAY 2018

The global Internet of Things (IoT) market will be worth $1.1 trillion in revenue by 2025 as market value shifts from connectivity to applications, platforms and services. Players from a range of backgrounds – including telecoms, IT, device manufacturing and systems integration – are all vying to capture a portion of this opportunity.

The latest forecasts from GSMA Intelligence outline IoT revenue growth over the period 2010–2025 for every region worldwide. Although connectivity revenue will grow over the period, it will only account for 5% of the total IoT revenue opportunity by 2025. Meanwhile, the applications, platforms and services segment will continue to increase as a share of overall IoT revenue, capturing two-thirds of the total by 2025. Professional services, and in particular systems integration, will account for the remainder.

The accompanying report “IoT: the $1 trillion revenue opportunity” highlights the key drivers of market growth and delves into our thinking behind the numbers.
