The battle for Fox by Comcast and Disney started in November 2017 when news broke that Disney had been working to buy Fox, and Comcast subsequently began discussions to acquire Fox itself. The outcome of this battle mattered for Hulu’s future because of the shareholding structure, with Disney, Comcast and Fox all equal shareholders, and Time Warner a minor one. Between November 2017 and June 2018, competing bids were made by Comcast and Disney; in the end, Disney won the battle for Fox with its $71.3 billion offer. Disney would now have a controlling stake in Hulu and while Hulu’s future looks more certain, it is not yet entirely settled.
