Digital Nations 2026: building trusted digital ecosystems in Asia Pacific

This insight is open to all subscribers and registered users, or available by completing the form.

Asia Pacific is entering a new phase of digital development. Over the past decade, governments, businesses and citizens have benefited from significant investment in connectivity, digital services and innovation. The challenge now is to ensure that increasingly interconnected systems can be trusted. As digital platforms become integral to economic activity, public services, finance, communications and emerging technologies such as AI, trust becomes a critical enabler of digital transformation.

Digital trust cuts across all five components of the Digital Nations Index. It determines whether infrastructure is reliable, innovation is adopted, data is used responsibly, digital interactions are protected and people can participate with confidence. Trust is therefore the enabling condition that allows the five pillars to reinforce each other, shaping how digital capabilities are built but also whether they can translate into sustained economic and social value.

This report examines the trust imperative across Asia Pacific, examines the results of the Digital Nations Index in the context of trust, outlines the role of mobile operators as guardians of digital trust, and presents priorities for strengthening the foundations of digital trust for governments, regulators, operators and international cooperation institutions.
