Contact usFWA solutions have been around for more than two decades, but prior to the arrival of 5G, adoption was slow. 5G is driving renewed interest, making FWA a more competitive solution, vis-à-vis established fixed technologies such as fibre and cable, and a key use case for 5G monetisation. Commercialisation is on the rise; as of the end of 2022, 95 operators had launched 5G FWA services worldwide across both developed and developing markets.
In this report, we review the state of the 5G FWA market and provide insights into its future outlook. In a range of markets, such as Austria, Australia, Germany and the US, 5G FWA will account for more than 10% of total fixed broadband connections by 2025. By 2030, India will be the largest market worldwide, with 46.5 million connections. Through case studies, we also shine a light on how leading operators are launching and monetising 5G FWA services.

Fixed broadband: the new market trends and commercial strategies shaping competition and service adoption
This report examines the major shifts reshaping fixed broadband, combining market analysis with a detailed review of operator propositions across eight countries. Growth dynamics are evolving, with mature markets approaching saturation and customer loyalty becoming harder to secure. Fibre continues to consolidate its position as the most important access technology, driven by ongoing migration from legacy networks and widening coverage through greenfield deployments. 5G FWA is also gaining traction, particularly where fixed deployment is constrained or too costly, and is increasingly being used for temporary, secondary or back-up connectivity.
5G in Context, Q4 2025
This quarterly review of global 5G developments provides a concise, tracker-style deliverable, presenting key metrics and forecasts in an easy-to-access and engaging way. GSMA Intelligence has aggregated the latest data on 5G connections and adoption, as well as information on network trials/launches and spectrum assignments.
Reshaping networks: from a 5G core to an agentic core
Building on previous reports on the evolution of core networks in the 5G-Advanced and AI eras, this report explores what agentic AI means for the mobile core. For the mobile core, most key objectives are unchanged: building future-proof networks that can support a growing and diverse range of endpoints (users, devices and applications) while efficiently delivering intelligent services at scale – all underpinned by a monetisation imperative. But new dynamics have entered the space, from the rise of agentic AI to the sharp focus on sovereignty and mission-critical connectivity. As such, a fresh review of the evolution of mobile core networks is needed.
