When Vodafone reported its calendar Q1 2006 it became possible to assess the region's performance in the first three months of the year. In terms of connections two things were immediately obvious. Firstly, total net additions followed their established seasonal pattern and were well down sequentially but continue to show strong growth year-on-year . Secondly, and more importantly, net additions to WCDMA accounted for 95% of the total regional net additions. This far exceeded expectations for the quarter and is a clear indicator that this might just be a very good year for next generation in Western Europe.
