Understanding the impact of Covid-19 on fixed broadband and pay-TV markets

This report is available to those subscribed to the Fixed, TV and Convergence module.
The essential role of home connectivity during the pandemic has benefitted the residential broadband segment. However, with many commercial establishments closed due to Covid-19 restrictions, B2B broadband has suffered.
Meanwhile, home entertainment has provided households with much-needed respite during lockdowns. Pay TV’s status within the home has shifted from being an add-on to an almost essential service. While gains in average daily viewing time have been seized by both traditional pay-TV and video streaming companies, when it comes to subscriber growth only video streaming shows a clear upward trend.
This latest report from GSMA Intelligence looks at the impact of Covid-19 on both the fixed broadband and pay-TV markets. As well as global trends, the report presents analysis of the impact of Covid-19 on four of the countries most affected by the pandemic (the US, the UK, Brazil and India).
