The mobile industry continues to underpin the rapid digital transformation in Asia Pacific, with advanced mobile networks enabling innovative use case cases for consumers and enterprises. The impact of mobile connectivity is evidenced by its contribution to the economy. In 2023, mobile technologies and services generated 5.3% of Asia Pacific’s GDP, a contribution that amounted to $880 billion of economic value added, and supported around 13 million jobs across the region. In Asia Pacific, operators are increasingly deploying 5G networks based on the standalone architecture and private 5G networks to enable innovative solutions for enterprises. Commercial 5G SA network is now present in seven countries (Australia, India, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand), providing the opportunity to unlock new 5G applications

In addition to a range of technology, socioeconomic and financial datasets, the report examines key trends across the mobile industry: the shift to 5G-Advanced and 5G RedCap; progress with the GSMA Open Gateway; momentum for satellite connectivity; opportunities in generative AI; and enhancements in online safety. Additionally, it explores mobile‘s impact on digital inclusion and the SDGs.
