Digital gaming moves up a level: consumer trends, new technologies and operator tactics

Consumers continue to increase their engagement in digital gaming, with 58% of adults playing games on any device at least once per week.
The latest gaming research from GSMA Intelligence discusses the key gaming trends revealed by the consumer survey for 2022. Insights span areas such as gaming engagement levels, the state of smartphone gaming, gaming on consoles and XR devices, free versus paid-for gaming, adoption of gaming subscriptions, bundling gaming with mobile subscriptions, gaming as a 5G use case, live gaming (including e-sports) and gaming as a metaverse activity. The research also examines the impact of advanced AI on gaming.
The report outlines four potential routes to gaming for operators, and presents case studies of operators in gaming for SK Telecom, AT&T and Telecom Italia.
