GSMA Intelligence has today published the latest in its country overview series, taking a deep dive into the mobile market in Colombia.
Latin America’s third-largest country has performed well economically over the past decade. Government initiatives under the Vive Digital plan have played a part in the economy’s strong performance. The plan sets the country up for the long term in terms of the economy and improving the quality of life for citizens. The first phase promoted broadband coverage and adoption across the country – demographically, geographically and across all social classes.
Despite these efforts, measures such as smartphone and mobile broadband adoption and mobile internet usage still lag in Colombia. The second phase of Vive Digital, which focuses on ICT skills, innovation and entrepreneurship, will be critical to closing these gaps.
This report looks at the economic contribution of the mobile sector, how the government is supporting innovation, and how modernising the regulatory environment can help bring further benefits to consumers.
