Smart cities deployments have moved away from trials and proof of concept to real life implementations.
IoT lies at the heart of smart city with data driven insights improving the lives of the citizens. According GSMA Intelligence Enterprise in Focus survey 2020, 62% of public sector enterprises deployed IoT as part of digital transformation agenda, with most recognising the importance of 5G in enabling creation of new use cases that required high bandwidth, low latency and massive IoT density.
Current pandemic has led to short-term budget reallocation to prioritise fighting the virus, leading to innovation: e.g. technology use (AI, edge) to monitor citizens and fight the virus.
