5G for verticals: reshaping Europe’s mobile sector narrative

Commercial 5G networks are live in several European markets and the portfolio of compatible mobile devices is growing. Consumer 5G tariffs generally reflect those of 4G, but will likely evolve as content ecosystems mature. However, it is 5G’s potential in verticals, including autonomous vehicles and smart manufacturing, that will define the European mobile story over the coming years. For the European Commission and national regulators, facilitating 5G’s development – alongside emerging technologies – must be a policy priority to re-establish Europe as a leading digital society. In parallel, operators should nurture 5G use cases in key verticals, which could lead to innovative monetisation models that support positive revenue growth trends.
