Asia’s new kids on the block change market mood music

The current decade has seen a wave of merger activity as several mobile operators, particularly in Europe, combined for scale or growth, or to expedite 4G rollout. While some western telcos attempt to convince regulators of the merits of further in-market transactions, in Asia certain countries will soon see the entry of a new operator, either organically or as a consequence of policy. For these new players, the strength of competition, the reactions of incumbents and the strategies they employ will influence how successful their ventures are and the longer term outlook for the market.
